Charleston Highway travelers should expect lane closures near Williams Street beginning next week

West Columbia, SC 02/17/2023 (Paul Kirby) – The SC Department of Transportation (SCDOT) released a statement Friday afternoon detailing lane closures that will be necessary as they upgrade the storm drainage piping under a portion of US Hwy 321 (Charleston Hwy) and Williams Street in the Cayce/West Columbia area. The repairs and closures are expected to begin on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, and are expected to be complete by mid-March. The lane closures will remain in place until all the work is complete.

Dual lane closures will impact travel southbound on Charleston Highway (US 321) and drivers traveling southbound toward Gaston should anticipate delays during peak travel periods. Access to Williams Street will be closed at the intersection of Charleston Highway (US 321) and a detour route is in place along Platt Springs Road for local traffic. You can see all this on the map below. These lane closures are not expected to impact northbound traffic.

Drivers are reminded to slow down in work zones and pay attention to directional signage.
