Christmas in Leesville a success and merchants are still open and ready to serve you

Batesburg-Leesville, SC 12/09/2020 - On Friday night, December 4th, the Leesville Merchants Association held its annual Christmas in Leesville event. Merchants in the vibrant, historic downtown Leesville business district extended their business hours, Christmas music played in the street, and a classic car show, marshmallow roast, and the first Gingerbread House Decorating contest all happened simultaneously.

Eight teams participated in the Gingerbread House Decorating contest at Faith-Full Cafe located on Main Street. Each team was provided with a decorating kit and was given thirty minutes to build and decorate their house. Their purpose was to connect their design with this year’s theme, “A Season of Hope.” A panel of three judges consisting of Mayor Lancer Shull, Robbin Swygert, and Krista Parrish picked this year’s winners. They are:

1st place winners were Carly and Hailey Stamper. They received a $100 Leesville Merchants gift certificate.

2nd Place winners were Rhonda Dority, Carson Dority, Mary Dority, and Annie Parrish. They received a $50 Leesville Merchants gift certificate.

3rd Place winners were Katie, Chris, and Morgan Weed of the Ice Cream at Truly Scrumptious Ice Creamery.

Santa and Mrs. Claus planned to attend a quick parade through Main Street picking up the children’s Christmas wish lists, but rain canceled the activity. Instead, the wish lists were express mailed to the North Pole where Santa and Mrs. Claus have been busy reviewing each one and have recorded a special message. Citizens can view that on their Facebook or YouTube Channel: The South Carolina Poultry Festival.
