Family displaced by home fire Friday

Dixiana, SC – 03/27/2021 (Paul Kirby) – A home was destroyed by fire on Gardners Terrace Road near Adams Terrace Court Friday afternoon. The fire was reported around 12:30 p.m.

Firefighters from across southern Lexington County rushed to the burning home. When they arrived, the first truck's officer reported that about 50% of the home was already involved in fire. Firefighters quickly dismounted their apparatus, pulled hoses, and went to work dousing the flames.

A search of the home revealed that there were six dogs living in the home with the humans. Two were adults and four were puppies. Firefighters used special oxygen equipment to assist the dogs in recovering from the smoke they had breathed in during the fire.

As more manpower and equipment arrived on scene, they formed into teams and began the arduous task of finding and putting all the fire out. Despite their gallant efforts, the home had already been destroyed by the flames prior to their arrival.

The fire displaced a family that has five children. The battalion chief from the fire service had his dispatch notify the American Red Cross to assist them. Because that agency can only do so much, some friends are discussing ways that this family can be helped. We will keep you up to date on those efforts in the coming days.
