Cayce, SC 02/24/2022 (Paul Kirby) – An early Thursday morning fire at Trinity Baptist Church in Cayce is being investigated by several law enforcement agencies. According to Ashley Hunter, a spokesperson for the City of Cayce Police Department, the Cayce Fire Department responded to a reported fire at Trinity Baptist Church, located at 2003 Charleston Hwy., at 1:44 a.m. Thursday morning. Upon the arrival of the first fire units, smoke was seen coming from the building. Firefighters made entry in the building and were able to contain and extinguish the fire quickly.
The Cayce Fire Department requested mutual aid from Lexington County’s Fire Service. They also requested that the Batesburg-Leesville Fire Department respond to the fire with their trailer mounted “Super Fan” which is designed to remove smoke from large structures. It is the only one of its type in the Midlands. According to Hunter, there was minimal damage to one portion of the church.
Hunter said late Thursday that Trinity Baptist Church is currently closed while an investigation is being performed. The City of Cayce Police Department is being assisted by the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) with their investigation. This is a normal procedure for fires in churches.
Anyone with information about this fire is asked to call Crimestoppers at 888-CRIMESC.
