Red Banks, SC 11/29/2023 (Paul Kirby) – A heating and air system on the roof of the Red Bank Wal-Mart caught fire early Wednesday morning. According to Jessica Imbimbo, a spokesperson for Lexington County, the fire was reported about 3:20 a.m. The first arriving fire crews reported that they did have flames visible from the unit on arrival.
Imbimbo said that firefighters quickly brought the fire under control and the blaze did not extend into the store. Although the HVAC unit was heavily damaged, the only effect the fire had on the interior of the building was some minor water damage that came from fire hose firefighters were using on the roof.
The Wal-Mart was reportedly reopened Wednesday morning.
