Lexington County, SC 01/09/2025 (Paul Kirby) – Four Lexington County school districts have announced that they have modified their schedules after forecasters predicted that inclement winter weather would hit our area of the Midlands of South Carolina Friday afternoon. As of noon Thursday, the only Lexington County district that has not announced a change is Lexington Four that educates the children of the Gaston and Swansea areas.
Lexington County School District One announced Wednesday that they would move to their half-day schedule Friday. District One serves the school aged children of the Lexington, River Bluff, Gilbert, White Knoll, and Pelion areas of Lexington County.
Dismissal times are as follows:
Pre-school half-day classes, both morning and afternoon sessions - Canceled
Elementary Schools (including full-day preschool classes) - 11:20 a.m.
Middle Schools
All except GMS — 12:05 p.m.
GMS — 12:15 p.m.

High Schools
LHS, WKHS, and RBHS — 12:45 p.m.
PHS and GHS — 12:25 p.m.
Information for students who travel to other locations:
High school students who attend Lexington Technology Center, The College Center or an Advanced Center of Study should follow their Collaborative Planning Day schedule as provided by their school.
After-school activities:
After-school childcare is canceled on Friday, January 10.
All after-school activities will be suspended from dismissal on Friday until 10 a.m. Saturday. Individual schools will provide updates for any Saturday events impacted by these changes.
Meals: Breakfast and lunch will be served on Friday.
Lexington School District Two Lexington Two schools and offices will dismiss early on Friday, January 10, due to forecasts of a potential wintry mix beginning that afternoon.
Friday’s early dismissal times are 11:30 a.m. for elementary schools, 12:30 p.m. for middle and high schools.
All after-school activities/programs on Friday are canceled, including athletic events and practices, extracurricular activities, after-school programs, Boys and Girls Clubs, and adult education classes.
Coaches and schools will reach out directly to families and athletes regarding the status of any previously scheduled Saturday, January 11 events. (Of note, the archery tournament previously scheduled for this weekend at Busbee Creative Arts Academy has been rescheduled for March 21-22).
District Two educates the school aged children of the Cayce, West Columbia, Springdale, South Congaree, and Pine Ridge areas of Lexington County.
Lexington School District Three of the Batesburg-Leesville area of Lexington County has announced that they are switching to an e-Learning Day Friday. Children and staff will not physically attend school at all but will instead learn through their district supplied computers.
Lexington Richland School District Five has announced that they will operate on a half-day schedule Friday. That district educates the school aged children of the Chapin and Irmo area of Lexington and Richland Counties.
Their schedule is as follows:
All intermediate schools release at 11:40 a.m.
All elementary schools release at 11:50 a.m.
Academy of Success release at 12:30 p.m.
All middle schools release at 12:45 p.m.
Spring Hill High School releases at 12:50 p.m.
All other high schools release at 1:05 p.m.
The district also said students in half-day preschool programs, afternoon classes at The Center for Advanced Technical Studies and adult education will not meet Friday. Morning classes for The Center for Advanced Technical Studies will receive online instruction.
