Chapin, SC 10/05/2023 - Sandra Oliver, a native of North Carolina and a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNC-G), has called South Carolina home for more than half her life. She retired from the South Carolina public schools after teaching business, mathematics, and adult education.
She first developed an interest in art after moving to Newberry, SC, when she studied pastel and oil painting for a brief period. Devoting her time to her family and teaching, Sandra did not resume her art studies until 2011 when she began taking watercolor
lessons from Anna Kay Singley.
Although her primary medium is watercolor, she occasionally works in other media. She has been juried into the South Carolina State Fair Fine Arts Exhibit, Amateur Division, every year since 2011 and in 2022 received a merit award for her watercolor, “Mommy’s
Graduation.” She has exhibited paintings in Crooked Creek Juried Art Exhibition, Union County Arts Council Juried Art Show, Still Hopes Exhibit, and Irmo Library Exhibit. Her collage and watercolor painting, “Orchid,” won the Post Card Award in the Crooked
Creek Juried Art Exhibition in 2017.
An active member of Crooked Creek Art League since 2014, Sandra has served as president, Juried Art Exhibit co-chair, workshop coordinator, and is currently publicity coordinator.
