Red Bank, SC 05/10/2023 (Paul Kirby) – A home was gutted by fire in the 300 block of Echo Court in the Red Bank area of the county Tuesday night. Echo Court runs off Ironstone Lane off Cannon Trail just west of South Lake Drive. The fire, first reported just after 8:30 p.m., destroyed much of the home before firefighters were able to bring it under control.
The first callers to report the fire apparently thought that a resident of the home was trapped inside by the fire. This was relayed to the firefighters that were enroute who were preparing to enter the house in an attempt to rescue anyone that may have been left or trapped inside. Crews quickly suited up and one team began to attack the flames and smoke coming out of the home while a second crew quickly began a primary search of the interior. The EMS supervisor who was still enroute asked the county’s telecommunications operator to request an estimated time of arrival for the Lifenet helicopter and put them on standby. They were told to stand down once a searches of the home revealed there was no patient.
Firefighters did have a viable fire hydrant within a few hundred feet of the burning home, so they quickly dropped a supply line from that to provide a constant fire flow. Once this was established, the crews quickly knocked the fire down and brought it under control. Because of the extent of the flames before the fire service arrived, the home was gutted by the blaze. It took them several more hours to overhaul the structure to ensure that there was no hidden fire that might cause a rekindle later that night.
The cause of the fire has not been released by the county.
