South Congaree, SC 12/08/2022 (Paul Kirby) - The annual Christmas tradition, Jesus is His Name, has returned to the Midlands of South Carolina for its seventh year. Jesus is His Name is a drama that chronicles the birth, life, and death of Jesus Christ. Each year, in the ending scene, as Jesus rises from the grave and ascends into heaven, many in the audience and cast break into tears as the Holy Spirit falls across the crowd and many realize that they can be forgiven by the blood of the Lamb that was shed for mans’ sins thousands of years ago.
This special and life changing event is open to the general public and is absolutely free of charge. Friends and families come each year, and everyone is asked to invite others to experience this wonderful performance.
Each year, 120 volunteer cast members and a group of very special live animals join to present this drama. There are 11 Free Performances, all presenting this one life changing story!
Since 2016, the South Congaree Equestrian Arena has been transformed into a vibrant, inspiring venue to experience the re-enactment of the life of Jesus. The audience is captivated by the vivid sets, live animals, and colorful cast members in beautiful costumes who make the performance come alive. Volunteers from Lexington and several surrounding counties come together to share the wonderful story of Jesus’ birth, life, death, and resurrection. This annual production has become a Christmas highlight for many!
Performances span three weekends (Dec. 2-4, 9-11 & 16-17) with Friday performances at 7:00pm, Saturday performances at 2:30pm & 6:00pm, and two Sunday Performances at 4:00pm. The drama venue is located at 395 Oak Street, South Congaree, SC 29172, in the Congaree Rodeo Arena. This is a climate controlled enclosed area during this drama.
