Lake Murray, SC 05/06/2021 - In recognition of National Safe Boating Week, the Lake Murray U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary is offering a free boater education course. This is for anyone who wants to learn about the fundamentals of safe and responsible boating. This instructor-led course will be held online using Zoom over three consecutive evenings on May 17, 18 and 19 from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Students who successfully complete the entire course will earn the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources Boater Education card. To register and receive the Zoom meeting invitation, go to www.register-ed.com/events/view/168320 or contact Clay Goodwin by email claygoodwin@netscape.net. Seating is limited.
Boater education is taught in an effort to reduce loss of life, personal injury and property damage while increasing boating enjoyment for outdoor enthusiasts. Boaters under 16 years of age are required by law to pass an approved boating education course before operating, without supervision, a personal watercraft (jet ski) or a boat powered by a motor of 15 horsepower or more. Completing a boater education course promotes compliance with boating laws and may also establish eligibility for a discount on boat or PWC insurance.
The Lake Murray USCG Auxiliary can offer this course free of charge thanks to a donation in memory of Daniel Giurk, who died in a Lake Murray boating accident in 2018.
