Lexington, SC 02/12/2025 (Paul Kirby) – A 27 +/- site west of the Town of Lexington recently sold for $2.68 million. The site is slated to be developed into the Lexington Marketplace Shopping Center.
This retail destination will feature 208,000 square feet of retail space with 6 outparcels. The anchor business for the development will feature the Lexington area’s second Target store.
“This development represents a major milestone in Lexington’s continued growth,” said Patrick Chambers, one of the brokers for NAI which handled the sale. “Its prime location along Augusta Highway, in one of the areas fastest growing corridors, makes it an ideal site. We look forward to seeing how it enhances the surrounding community.”
The property is already zoned for this type of development by Lexington County so it will need no further council approval for this development to continue. Some area residents have already expressed concerns regarding the new development and what it will do to those who live around it. Those residents concerns include adding more traffic to the community’s already congested roads, light pollution from the store’s and parking lot’s lights, and noise pollution from delivery trucks servicing the stores and performing services like dumping garbage containers.
Advocates say that it will be much more convenient to shop at this Target without having to fight through the traffic that already exists in the town’s limits. Some also have certain businesses in mind that they would like to see developed on the outparcels. Many say that Lexington is ready for a good fast casual chain like Longhorn Steakhouse or a Chipotle Mexican Grill. The sale of those out parcels would be handled through NAI as well.
