Lexington County Coroner Fisher identifies man who was killed while walking along I-26 Sunday evening

Lexington, SC 11/04/2024 (Paul Kirby) - Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher said Monday that a man was killed Sunday evening while walking along I-26 near the West Columbia exit. Fisher said that Clayton Wesley Barrs, age 68, of West Columbia was struck near the 111 mile-marker just before 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 3, 2024.

According to Fisher, Barrs was walking west along the interstate when he was struck by a vehicle driving west as well. Barrs was pronounced dead on scene due to the injuries sustained in the collision. The driver stopped and remained on scene until law enforcement and emergency service personnel arrived.

 

The Lexington County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol continue to investigate the incident.
