Lexington, SC 02/20/2025 - DeAndre Malcolm Black, age 49, was convicted by a Lexington County jury on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, for Trafficking Methamphetamine, 28 grams or more, but less than 100 grams. Circuit Court Judge Jocelyn Newman presided over the trial and sentenced Black to 25 years in the South Carolina Department of Corrections. This conviction was Black’s third offense which carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years. Under South Carolina Law, Black will not be eligible for parole and this conviction is classified as a violent and serious offense.
The Lexington County Multi-Agency Narcotics Enforcement Team (“NET”) conducted the investigation in this case. On April 17, 2023, Black sold over 28 grams of methamphetamine during a narcotics operation. The investigation into Black included multiple purchases of narcotics.
Assistant Solicitors Jordan Cox and Kyle E. Smith prosecuted this case on behalf of the Eleventh Circuit Solicitor’s Office. According to the prosecutors, this case represents the continued efforts of the Eleventh Circuit Solicitor’s Office and local law enforcement to aggressively investigate and prosecute those who choose to flood our communities with dangerous drugs, such as methamphetamine.
Black has been transported to the South Carolina Department of Corrections to serve his active prison sentence. During sentencing, prosecutors informed the Court that this was Black’s third drug conviction since 2021. He also has prior convictions for assault, burglary, and pointing or presenting a firearm.
