Lexington County Legislative Delegation urging South Carolinians to pray for Ukraine

Lexington, SC 02/27/2022 - Lexington legislators are urging South Carolinians to a “Day of Prayer for Ukraine”. The invasion of Ukraine began Thursday with Russian forces attacking by land, sea, and air.

In an announcement, Representative Micah Caskey urged, “We should all set aside to pray for the victims of Russia’s egregious aggression.”

Rep. Caskey joined with other Lexington legislators urging citizens to set aside a day of prayer for Ukraine. “We want to send a strong message to Russia, Ukraine, and the world our people, the people of South Carolina, are unified in prayer in support of Ukraine and those standing up for freedom,” said Senator Billy Garrett.

Recently, Russia intensified the horrific attack on Ukraine. In the last days, people have been forced to seek shelter and flee for their lives. “Innocent people, families, across Ukraine are being forced into hiding underground and fleeing the country for safety. They need our support and prayers,” said Representative Paula Calhoon.

Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, believes Ukraine to be a Russian territory in Eastern Europe. South Carolina legislators strongly disagree. “We stand with those whose homes have been invaded by this evil. We stand in solidarity with the good people of Ukraine,” said Senator Katrina Shealy.
