Lexington County schools switching to e-Learning days tomorrow due to expected strong storms, severe weather

Lexington County, SC 01/08/2024 (Paul Kirby) – Lexington County school districts have said early Monday that they will switch to an e-Learning day Tuesday due to predicted severe weather. Meteorologists are saying that by Tuesday afternoon, the county can expect to have heavy rains, high winds, and even a chance of some tornadoes.

Even though this may cause childcare issues for many parents, it is actually being done due in large part to transportation safety concerns. School buses come with Safe Operations Guidelines that spell out what maximum wind speeds and gust they can be safely operated in. Because of their high, flat sides, they are susceptible to being blown over if they are in operation when winds get above that safe speed.

Students are reminded that e-Learning days aren’t days off. They should check their school issued computers to receive their assignments and work on those at home. Students that do not sign on may be marked as absent for the day.
