Lexington, SC - 03/25/2021 - Lexington School District One's Superintendent Greg Little announced Thursday that the Board of Trustees approved four administrator promotions during their March 16, 2021 Meeting. The board approved the promotion of Kathryn M. McPhail to the position of chief communications officer, Devona L. Price to the position of chief human resources officer, Derek W. Berry to the position of Information Technology senior systems analyst, and Margaret Ann White to the position of Information Technology systems. Kathryn M. McPhail
McPhail, who currently serves as the district’s communications director, joined Lexington County School District One in 2020, with 20 years of public relations and media experience. Before joining the district, she spent 13 years leading and supporting public relations for colleges and universities across the Southeast, including serving as director of communications for the University of South Carolina’s College of Education. Before joining the College of Education in 2016, she served as public information director for the university’s College of Engineering and Computing for four years. She also led communication efforts for the University of Southern Mississippi’s DuBard School for Language Disorders in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, for three years before moving to South Carolina in 2012.
She served as public relations director at Albany Technical College in Albany, Georgia, from 2006–2009 and as a television reporter and news anchor for seven years in South Georgia. While there, she earned an Associated Press Award for Live Team Coverage and Albany Herald’s Best of the Best TV News Anchor award.
McPhail graduated cum laude from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Arts in broadcast journalism and is a member of the National School Public Relations Association, South Carolina Chapter of the National School Public Relations Association and South Carolina Association of School Administrators.
Devona L. Price
Price, who currently serves as human resources director, joined HR in 2016 as director of teacher quality after serving as principal of Lake Murray Elementary School for six years.
During her 25 years of education experience, Price began her career as a third grade teacher at Delmae Heights Elementary School in Florence 1 Schools in 1996.
She moved to Mount Zion Elementary in Charleston County School District in 1998 as a fourth and fifth grade teacher before her promotion to lead teacher specializing in curriculum two years later.
In 2001, she joined Lexington District One as a fourth grade teacher at Saxe Gotha Elementary School. She was promoted to the position of assistant principal at Oak Grove Elementary School in 2003 and named principal at OGES in 2007. In 2010, she transferred to the position of principal of Lake Murray Elementary.
Price graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from Francis Marion University. She also earned a Master of Education in educational leadership from the University of South Carolina.
Derek W. Berry
With 25 years of IT and classroom instruction experience, Berry joined Lexington District One in 2019 as an IT systems analyst. In this role, he supports the district’s PowerSchool system, researches and implements software solutions, initiates and monitors IT projects, and develops custom pages and solutions designed to meet the district’s strategic goals.
He began his career as a youth pastor at Lugoff First Baptist Church in 2005 before joining the Kershaw County School District. While in Kershaw, he served 13 years in various roles, including IT coordinator, IT facilitator, lead technology instructor, and IT and marketing teacher. While there, he earned WLTX-TV’s Distinguished Teacher Award three times.
From 2004–2018, Berry worked as an educational consultant for Knowledge Network Solutions, where he developed educational training modules for software.
He earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration management from Lander University. He is a Microsoft Innovative Master Trainer and a Google Apps Certified Teacher and Trainer. He also holds certification in Cisco CCNA.
Margaret Ann White
White currently serves as data management specialist at River Bluff High School. She will replace Berry in the systems analyst role.
White, who joined the Lexington District One family in 2008 as a media specialist at Lexington High School, became LHS’s attendance secretary in 2009.
In 2012, she transferred to RBHS, where she worked as student records operator. In this role, she dealt with student information in PowerSchool, generated reports, stored student grades, supported online registration and entered meeting transcripts.
In 2013, White shifted to data management specialist at RBHS, supporting instruction, student services, scheduling and data analysis. She has served as an EL Education credentialing project manager and collaborated with instructional leaders to implement equitable data-driven action plans impacting all stakeholders.
White earned an associate degree in science in chemical technology from Midlands Technical College and a Bachelor of Science in business administration with an emphasis on management information systems from Southern New Hampshire University.
