Lexington, SC 06/16/2022 - On Tuesday, June 14, 2022, the Lexington County School District One Board of Trustees approved the promotion of Derek W. Berry to application services director, effective July 1, 2022. Berry currently serves as the district’s IT senior systems analyst.
A professional with more than 25 years of experience in management, information technology and classroom instruction, Berry began his career in Greenwood, S.C., as Summerset Land Group’s IT geographic information specialist. Berry briefly left the IT field to work as the youth pastor for Lugoff First Baptist Church.
In 2006, Berry joined Kershaw County School District and stepped into the classroom to serve as a computer science and marketing teacher. There, he implemented and deployed Google Apps for Education for all schools in Kershaw County. In 2013, Berry was named the lead technology instructor for Kershaw County School District, where he delivered instructional technology training and support to Lugoff-Elgin High School faculty and staff. In 2014, Berry was promoted to KCSD’s instructional technology facilitator. He delivered and implemented instructional technology to district administration, teachers and students, and led the district’s efforts in deploying student and staff devices. In 2019, Berry was named the district’s instructional technology coordinator, implementing new instructional and informational technology projects.
In 2019, Berry joined Lexington District One as an IT systems analyst. In 2021, he was promoted to his current position as an IT senior systems analyst.
Berry has a Bachelor of Arts in business administration management from Lander University. He is a certified Google Apps Administrator and a Master Microsoft Innovative Educator Trainer. He also obtained his teaching certification in 2010. He participated in and led the S.C. Association of School Administrators as the IT Roundtable Chair, and is a member of the Olde English Consortium. He was a keynote speaker for the S.C. Google Symposium in 2017. Berry was selected to serve on the S.C. Department of Education’s K–8 Computer Science Standards Writing Committee. Berry currently serves on the board of the S.C. District Data Governance Group.
