Lexington, SC 02/26/2025 - The South Carolina Department of Agriculture announced Wednesday that a Lexington restaurant has been named as the winner of the inaugural Fresh on the Menu People’s Choice Award for the Midlands region. This new award is one of four that recognizes standout restaurants in each of the four regions across South Carolina for their commitment to using local ingredients.
Fresh on the Menu, a sister program of Certified South Carolina, highlights restaurants that sources at least 25 percent of their ingredients from within the state. From February 3 to February 21, diners cast votes for their favorite restaurants across the four regions of South Carolina.
The 2025 People’s Choice winner for the Midlands is the Mediterranean Café located at 327 West Main Street, Lexington, SC. According to the SC Department of Agriculture, the Mediterranean Cafe’s cuisine draws influence largely from the Middle East and North America, offering classic Mediterranean dishes with an American flare. House-made hummus, falafel and other made-from-scratch delicacies overflow the menu, and guests can expect to taste freshness in every bite.
“I congratulate each of these winners and thank them for their support of South Carolina farmers,” said Grace Heins, Fresh on the Menu program manager. “These restaurants’ dedication to Certified South Carolina products strengthens our industry and brings delicious dishes to diners across the state.”
