West Columbia, SC 04/04/2024 - A Lexington Two middle school teacher is one of just 10 educators nationwide to be selected as a recipient of the Javits-Frasier Scholarship, presented by the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC).
Hannah Pond, an 8th grade ELA/English I teacher at Busbee Creative Arts Academy, will attend the NAGC’s convention in November to collaborate with other scholarship recipients for educator training and support. The NAGC website notes that students from low-income and minoritized populations are historically underrepresented in gifted education, and the NAGC’s Javits-Frasier Scholarship Program was created to recognize passionate, innovative educators, school counselors, and school psychologists who serve culturally and linguistically diverse students. Scholarship recipients must work in a Title I school.
"I am beyond excited that Ms. Pond has been acknowledged for her hard work and dedication in her Gifted and Talented classroom,” said Busbee Principal Sam Masone. “I think that she is the perfect candidate, because she loves every student that she interacts with and is very intentional about how she teaches content to them. Being a Javits-Frasier Scholar will open a lot of doors not only for Ms. Pond, but for all of our Busbee educators who will now have access to some of the greatest resources out there."
Pond has been a teacher at Busbee since the 2022-2023 school year.
