Lexington, SC - 03/24/2021 (Paul Kirby) – I-20 was closed Tuesday evening between Longs Pond Road (Exit 51) and South Lake Drive (Exit 55) after the body of a man was discovered along the interstate. Traffic was completely stopped as investigator with the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department began their investigation into the death.
At this point, very little information has been released regarding this incident. Deputies are working this case interviewing potential witnesses and collecting what evidence there is.
Ironically, another body was found in the same general area last year. A SC State Trooper who was exercising his K-9 when they located the body of a man in a closed area off the westbound side where truckers were once allowed to pull in and rest. That case was eventually deemed a homicide and an arrest was made. That suspect is awaiting trial.
The Lexington County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the decedent and the cause and manner of their death at the appropriate time.
