Lake Murray, SC 04/15/2024 (Paul Kirby) – One structure was destroyed and another heavily damaged on Pine Island on the banks of Lake Murray Monday morning. Pine Island was an employee recreation area for employees of SCE&G that had a large recreation building with a kitchen, a pool, beach, and boat docks among other amenities. It was closed after that company was bought by Dominion Energy.

This is in the Irmo Fire District’s primary area and units from the IFD were on the scene quickly. When they got there, they found smoke and flames coming from one residential type of structure and another that was being impacted by the fire. Fire crews from Irmo began pulling their hoses to attack the fire as trucks and crews from Lexington County’s Fire Service began arriving. With all teams working together, they brought the fires under control in a short amount of time.

The Irmo Fire District said via social media that these fires didn’t cause any traffic concerns, but the smoke was quite a sight from the nearby Lake Murray Dam. The cause of the fires are being investigated.
