Patient injured after officer involved shooting at Lexington Medical Center's Emergency Department this morning

West Columbia, SC 08/02/2024 (Paul Kirby) – A patient was injured after an officer involved shooting at the Lexington County Medical Center’s Emergency Department earlier today. According to an employee speaking on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak for the hospital, the patient received non-life-threatening injuries.

The Lexington Ledger had a reporter at LMC Medical Park 2 at 9:15 a.m. for an appointment and he said there did not appear to be a large law enforcement presence on scene at the emergency room that time. As the reporter was leaving the hospital shortly after 10:00 a.m., he received a call stating that this had occurred. At that time there were law enforcement vehicles in the ambulance bays but none of them were displaying their warning lights. One of them did appear to be an unmarked Crime Scene pickup.

SLED is investigating. No further details have been released by the Lexington Medical Center at this time.
