Pelion, SC 03/15/2025 (Paul Kirby) – A 2-year-old toddler died in a tragic mobile home fire early Saturday morning. The fire, dispatched around 2:00 a.m., was on Canal Drive near the Lexington County Airport and its South Region Service Center off Old Charleston Road.
The fire service responded with engines, tankers, a ladder truck, and several battalion chiefs to the blaze that was called in as a structure fire with possible entrapment. Lexington EMS also responded with an ambulance and a supervisor.
Engine 306 out of the Pelion Fire Station on Pine Street was first on scene. They found that the home was well involved and immediately went into rescue mode after being advised that the toddler had not made it out of the burning home. As additional crews from Boiling Springs, Edmund, Sharpes Hill, and other stations arrived, some of those personnel joined in the rescue attempt while others began to aggressively attack the fire. Despite the valiant efforts of the firefighters, the little girl died as a result of the blaze.
Later Saturday, investigators from the Lexington County Fire Service, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, and agents with the SC Law Enforcement Division were on the scene trying to pinpoint the exact cause of the blaze. Coroner Margaret Fisher’s office has removed the body of the child and will send it for an autopsy later this week.
