Pelion Police Department’s Chief John Rebolj resigned from his position last week

Pelion, SC 01/13/2025 (Paul Kirby) – Pelion Police Chief John Rebolj resigned his position last week leaving the department’s top position open. Reports cite unspecified tensions between Rebolj and Pelion’s Mayor Frank Shumpert and other members of the town’s council.

Rebolj had years of police service, including a long stent at the Richland County Sheriff’s Department. He also has military experience and has served in the SC National Guard for many years.

During his tenure in Pelion, the town took on the responsibility of hiring and managing the area’s 2 elementary schools, middle school, and Pelion High School’s SROs. He also oversaw the modernization of the department’s fleet getting rid of some of its older sedans and a used 4x4 pickup truck and switching to new police package Chevrolet SUVs.

The Town of Pelion’s leadership will begin making decisions regarding a new leader for the department soon. Until that is done, they have another senior officer leading the department.
