Police Chief frustrated because murder victim's circle knows something but isn't cooperating

Lexington, SC 07/11/2023 – According to the Lexington Police Department, one year ago, Tyler Robinson was killed outside of his home at the Lauren Ridge Apartments. Now, Chief Terrence Green is once again asking those who have any information in this case to come forward to help the department’s detectives as they continue to investigate this case.

According to a release from the department, on July 9, 2022, at approximately :00 a.m., officers responded to a shooting call at 500 Carlen Avenue. When they arrived, they found Tyler Robinson, age 29, in the outside stairwell of Building 4. He had been shot several times. Officers provided aid until Lexington County EMS arrived and transported the victim to the hospital. He was later pronounced dead due to his injuries.

Investigators say that Robinson had lived at the apartment complex for several months. He was also known as “T-Rob” and “T-Rob Smooth”. He was a music promoter in the greater Columbia area, active in the local music scene, and co-founder and producer at Long Money Camp.

Detectives found evidence that several unknown subjects shot Tyler Robinson multiple times moments after he arrived at the apartment complex. It is believed that this was a planned event and that he was followed from a club in downtown Columbia.

After he was shot, Tyler Robinson was robbed of jewelry and a watch. The subjects burglarized his apartment before fleeing from the scene.

Detectives are still searching for several pieces of custom jewelry and a watch that Robinson was believed to be wearing when he was killed. This jewelry includes a gold necklace and pendant with jewels with “Smooth” and “LMC”, two jeweled gold rings, one with “$” and the other with “LMC”, and a jeweled gold watch.

“Our Criminal Investigation Division, along with the support of state and federal agencies, have worked tirelessly on this case over the past year, and this investigation will not end until we’ve identified everyone involved in the murder of Tyler Robinson.” Chief Terrence Green said, “I am frustrated since our detectives have talked with several within Tyler Robinson’s circle who know what happened that night but are unwilling to cooperate. Nevertheless, every effort will be made to make arrests in this case to bring justice and closure for his family.

This investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information about this homicide, the subjects involved, or the whereabouts of the missing jewelry and watch are asked to contact Detective Wise at 803-358-1514 or awise@lexsc.com.
