South Congaree, SC 05/09/2023 (Paul Kirby) - Officers with the South Congaree Police Department arrested Jahvar Thomas, 30, of Richland County on Monday, May 8, 2023, after he was involved in a domestic dispute which took place in the town. Officers were notified of what was going on and when they arrived on scene, they found that Thomas was armed and had presented a pistol during the dispute. Because Thomas had already been convicted of a felony in the past, it is against the law for him to have a firearm or ammunition of any kind.
Upon further investigation, South Congaree officers found that Thomas was also in possession of a pound of marijuana. They say that the drugs were intended for distribution. He also had $7,000 in cash in his possession which officers believe were the proceeds from the sale of drugs.
According to Police Chief Josh Shumpert, Thomas has a history of violent crimes. He is currently on probation in S.C. for crimes he had previously committed. He has now been booked into the Lexington County Detention Center where he is being held on the charges of felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm while committing a violent crime, kidnapping, domestic violence in the first degree, and possession of the marijuana. A judge has set his bond in the amount of $50,000 for Thomas. As of Tuesday afternoon, he was still being held in the Detention Center.
