Lexington, SC 02/29/2025 (Paul Kirby) – A collision involving 2 tractor trailers closed both outbound lanes of Augusta Road at the I-20 east off ramp Tuesday afternoon. The collision involved a fuel tanker truck and a full-size box truck.
The collision, which happened around 3:00 p.m., occurred when both the trucks with their trailers came off the I-20 east ramp and attempted to turn east on Augusta Road toward West Columbia. As the tanker truck turned, the box truck that was approximately a truck length behind it, had its left fender, hood, and bumper smashed by the underside of the tanker. Both trucks stopped across Augusta Road blocking the 2 lanes. The drivers then called 911 and firefighters, EMS, and officers from the Lexington Police Department responded. Officers later requested that SC State Transport Police respond because the crash involved commercial vehicles.
Heavy wreckers responded to deal with the crashed vehicles, and the road had to be cleaned of fluids that spilled during the crash. Lexington Police reported that all roads and ramps were reopened shortly before 6:00 p.m.
