West Columbia, SC 01/30/2025 (Paul Kirby) - Wednesday night, officers with the West Columbia Police Department arrested a 17-year-old male from Chester County who they say robbed the Circle K convenience store at 2600 Sunset Boulevard near the entrance to the Lexington Medical Center. The robbery took place around 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 29, 2025.
As soon as officers arrived at the store after the call, they requested the assistance of K-9 officers and their handlers from other agencies. The City of Cayce Police Department, the City of Columbia Police Department, and deputies from the Lexington County Sheriff’s department responded and provided assistance. After a short search, officers located an article of clothing as well as other evidence the suspect hid at a motel on Harbor Drive just off the entrance ramp to I-26 east. Later, the suspect was taken into custody in a wooded area near the motel.
After completing their investigation, West Columbia detectives charged the teen with Armed Robbery, Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime, and Kidnapping. He has been transported to the Lexington County Detention Center and will face a judge during a bond hearing on Thursday.
