West Columbia, SC 09/08/2021 — The West Columbia City Council has selected Marion Boyce as the next West Columbia Police Chief.
Chief Marion Boyce began his law enforcement career as a Patrol Officer for the West Columbia Police Department in 2006, after serving in the US Army as a nuclear, biological, and chemical operations specialist. He worked his way up through the ranks at the Police Department as Patrol Corporal, Patrol Sergeant, Training Lieutenant, and most recently Administrative Captain. He has achieved the following awards and been recognized for his accomplishments including:
2020 – Graduate of Local Government Leadership Institute
2019 – Graduate of Leadership Lexington County (Active Alumni)
2018 – Graduate of Municipal Association of South Carolina’s Risk Management Institute
2012 – West Columbia Police Department Officer of the Year
Since 2018, Marion Boyce has been the liaison for the University of South Carolina’s College of Social Work (COSW) Outreach Program, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the USC COSW interns working on a program providing alternatives for citizens of West Columbia who struggle with mental health and/or substance abuse issues.
Chief Marion Boyce is an active member of the South Carolina Training Officers’ Association, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers’ Association, and the Lexington County Law Enforcement Officers’ Association. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Columbia College, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and is projected to graduate from The Citadel in May 2022 with a Master of Business Administration.
West Columbia Police Chief Marion Boyce said, “I am honored to be entrusted with this amazing opportunity to further serve the City of West Columbia and the police department. Mayor Tem Miles said, “After 24 years of consistent exemplary leadership from Chief Dennis Tyndall, we have appointed Marion Boyce to continue the leadership as Police Chief. We had three wonderful applicants for the position, all of which would have made great police chiefs. We look forward to Chief Boyce leading our department going forward.”
